PRESS RELEASE: Browning the Green Space adds thirty-five Clean Energy and Climate Organizations to Inaugural Coalition Membership

November 14, 2022, BOSTON, MA – Browning the Green Space (BGS), the nonprofit coalition driving diversity, equity and inclusion in clean energy and climatetech, today announced the addition of 35 new organizations to their coalition. As members of the BGS coalition, the organizations have committed to move from discussion to action towards building a culture of inclusion within their organizations. The coalition members represent a cross-sector coalition of clean energy and climate companies, non-profits, venture capital firms, and grassroots organizations in the Northeast.

Through its coalition membership program, BGS is building an accountable community for learning and growth in the clean energy and climate industry. BGS will support coalition members through community building, education and support resources, and accountability and visibility on their diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) pledge commitments.

“A just energy transition for our communities requires a comprehensive systems approach to workforce development in the clean energy and climate industry,” said Kerry Bowie, Executive Director and President of Browning the Green Space. “Our coalition membership initiative tackles this by addressing the barriers that exist within organizations for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and people of color so that they can both access and thrive in clean energy careers.”

The DEIJ Pledge each organization signed includes commitments to take responsibility as leaders, support personal development on conscious inclusion, prioritize improvement and encourage courageous conversations, establish transparent and just hiring and compensation practices, focus on retention and career advancement, create a culture of belonging, and engage in accountability and evaluation.

The following founding coalition members pledged to advance DEIJ within their organizations in support of a just energy transition for Black and Brown communities.
